the children are our future

Sometimes we look at the world as this round orb floating in space, revolving around a mammoth fireball just far enough away to not render us all pieces of Kingsford charcoal. We look at this place as merely a place to serve our own needs whether it be life sustinance or to achieve selfish deeds.

Either way we are missing the point, especially when the answer to our riddle is embedded in the millions of young people who populate the next generation. A group of young people who where the distribution of resources, at home or in the community is dramtically unproportioned.

Some are born to unfit parents, born sick, born from love and hate, born into abuse, and a host of other less than ideal circumstances, but none are born bad.

Jamel Shabazz is dedicated to uplifting children in underserved communities through the wonderful visual art that is photography. It is said to whom much is given, much is expected and Jamel continues to give of his craft and himself, with grace and humility.

From his photos we get a glimpse of our former selves, from his mind we get the truth. It is evident through his extremely productive career, that Jamel has received a lot, but to us he has given so much more.
